Product description
Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Snaffle Bit 16mm 12.5
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at its thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a moderately thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoon bits for Weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and function. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Snaffle Bit 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Snaffle Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed. The bit has a size of 12.5 centimeters.
Bit thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Cheekpiece
Mouthpiece
Single-jointed
The Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Snaffle Bit 16mm 12.5 has a joint in the middle, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily applies pressure to the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed one. Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bridle. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth is a curb bit and the bradoon is jointed.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
