The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and effectiveness. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon with Medium Bar 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon with Medium Bar 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally suitable for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its widest point. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical characteristics of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With their Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and rigorously quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available with single-jointed and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffle bits lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
