The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon High Port from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon High Port is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouths. The mouthpiece of this bit is a ported bar.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissures. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for Weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Ported Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A ported mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available as single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth is a curb bit and the bradoon is jointed.
