The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon French Link Copper Plate 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon French Link Copper Plate 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a French Link, meaning an eight-shaped plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-strength mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
French Link
The French Link mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with an eight-shaped plate in the middle that exerts even pressure on the tongue. This mouthpiece is double-jointed, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies a little more loosely in the horse's mouth.
Cheek Piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb and the bradoon is jointed.
