The Trust Equestrian bit range provides gentle yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon French Link Copper Plate 16mm 11.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon French Link Copper Plate 16mm 11.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a French Link, which is an eight-shaped plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a width of 11.5 centimeters. A mouthpiece size of 11.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissures. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draught horses and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
French Link
The French Link mouthpiece has two hinge points and an eight-shaped plate in the middle, which applies even pressure to the tongue. This mouthpiece has two hinge points, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth.
Cheek piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.
