The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon French Bar 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon French Bar 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for weymouths. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a width of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally suitable for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the weymouth, as the weymouth is a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
