The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon French Bar 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon French Bar 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is usually a good fit for a normal warmblood.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissure. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.
Mouthpiece
Bar bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth bit. It is available with single-jointed and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the weymouth bit, as the weymouth bit has a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
