Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bridoon Flat Bar 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bridoon Flat Bar 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally a good fit for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a whole centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a bar and the bridoon is jointed.
