Product description

Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Smooth Bar 16mm 12.5

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's lips. This makes it a moderately strong mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the best materials. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Smooth Bar 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:

The Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Smooth Bar 16mm 12.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheeks as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a smooth bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 12.5 centimeters.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece size 12.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference from other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth is a curb bit and the bradoon is jointed. Curb bits

A curb bit is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A curb mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
