The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon Single Jointed Blocking 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:

The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon Single Jointed Blocking 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Locked

The Locked mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.

Cheekpiece

Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
