Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bridoon Single Jointed Blocking 12mm 14 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bridoon Single Jointed Blocking 12mm 14 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The mouthpiece has a mouthpiece size of 14 centimeters. The 14cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bridoons for Weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked (blocking) mouthpiece is similar to a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other bits lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bridoon is jointed.
