The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bradoon Snaffle Single-Jointed Locking 12mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bradoon Snaffle Single-Jointed Locking 12mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for double bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when rein pressure is applied. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. So it is rather a thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for double bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks, becoming a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon Snaffle
The bradoon snaffle is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon snaffle is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
