The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon single jointed locked 12mm 10.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon single jointed locked 12mm 10.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller side pieces as a bradoon for weymouths. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 10.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for ponies.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12mm at the thickest point. So it is rather a thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed in such a way that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. If less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back into a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called Danger Bit.
Side piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth. It is available as single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the weymouth, as the weymouth is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
