The Trust Equestrian bit range provides gentle yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 13.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Sweet Iron Snaffle Bradoon Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 13.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for weymouths. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which means a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a medium-strength mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold bloods, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

Bradoons for weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits as a result.

Manufacturer Information

Mouthpiece

Dr. Bristol

The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It primarily acts on the tongue with a sharp effect due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean against the hand.

Cheekpiece

Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth. It is available with single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the weymouth, as the weymouth is a straight bar and the bradoon is jointed.
