Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bradoon Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which means a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a size of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for thoroughbreds.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point, making it a moderately thick mouthpiece.

Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.

Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust develops upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production, making horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its spirit of innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Dr. Bristol

The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a plate as the center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It primarily acts on the tongue with a sharp effect due to the straight, angled plate and with a shallower angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that pull against the hand.

Cheek Piece

Bradoon

The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference from other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
