The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today we would like to introduce the Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle Locked 13.5 16mm from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle Locked 13.5 16mm is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with loose ring cheeks. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it locks when the reins are taken up. The mouthpiece has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissure. This makes it a moderately strong mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust develops upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly controlled for quality.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks, becoming a straight bar, which makes it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheek Piece
Loose Ring Snaffle
The loose ring snaffle has two freely moving rings at each end. A movable ring means greater mobility of the bit in the mouth. The Trust Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle Locked 13.5 16mm is therefore ideal for beginners and horses that are somewhat inactive in the mouth.
