Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with loose rings as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Dr. Bristol, which means a plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The bit has a width of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally suitable for very large warmbloods.

Bit thickness

The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly controlled for quality.

Mouthpiece

Dr. Bristol

The Dr. Bristol mouthpiece is a double-jointed mouthpiece with a flat center piece. The center plate in a Dr. Bristol is angled and flat-edged. It acts mainly on the tongue with a sharp action due to the straight, angled plate and with a smaller angle on the bars. This bit can be useful for strong horses or those that lean against the hand.

Side piece

Loose Ring Snaffle

The loose ring snaffle has two loose rings at each end. A movable ring means greater mobility of the bit in the mouth. The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Loose Ring Snaffle Dr. Bristol Copper Plate 16mm 14.5 is therefore a bit for horses that prefer a more "mobile" bit in their mouth.
