The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bradoon Loose Ring Snaffle Single Jointed 12mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a bit more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bradoon Loose Ring Snaffle Single Jointed 12mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The bit has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Single jointed
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bradoon Loose Ring Snaffle Single Jointed 12mm 13.5 has a joint in the middle, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece mainly exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.
Cheek Piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb bit and the bradoon is jointed.
