Product description
Trust Bit Sweet Iron Weymouth Snaffle Single Jointed 12mm 13.0
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12mm at its thickest point, making it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Weymouth snaffles for double bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
The Trust Equestrian Team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of bits. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Weymouth Snaffle Single Jointed 12mm 13.0 from the Trust Equestrian range in a bit more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Weymouth Snaffle Single Jointed 12mm 13.0 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller side pieces as a bridoon for double bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 13 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for a normal warmblood.

Single jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece mainly applies pressure to the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is the most popular mouthpiece on the market. Weymouth Snaffle
The Weymouth snaffle is used in combination with a curb bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The Weymouth snaffle is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the curb bit, as the curb bit is a solid bar and the Weymouth snaffle is jointed.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
