Product description
Trust Snaffle Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Loose Ring Single Jointed 12mm 11.5
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest part in the horse's commissures. So it is a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold bloods and Shires Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bridoon bits for Weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today we would like to present the Trust Sweet Iron Bridoon Loose Ring Single Jointed 12mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Sweet Iron Bridoon Loose Ring Single Jointed 12mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces than a bridoon for Weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 11.5 centimetres.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is usually a good fit for athletic thoroughbreds.
Cheekpiece
Mouthpiece
single jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which means less pressure is exerted on the tongue than with a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. Next to the double-jointed mouthpiece, the single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces. Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffle bits lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth has a solid bar and the bridoon is jointed.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed in such a way that surface rust occurs on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
