The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Snaffle Single-Jointed 12mm 10.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller side pieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 10.5 centimeters. The 10.5cm mouthpiece size is normally ideal for ponies.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoon snaffles for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Single-jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which means less pressure is exerted on the tongue than with a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece mainly exerts pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed mouthpiece.
Side piece
Bridoon snaffle
The bridoon snaffle is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon snaffle is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb and the bridoon snaffle is jointed.
