The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Snaffle Double Jointed is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller side pieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bridoons for Weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Double jointed
A double jointed mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, bars and corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars with a narrow lower jaw. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Side Piece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bridle. It is available with single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth is a curb bit and the bridoon is jointed.
