The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bradoon Loose Ring Double Jointed 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a bradoon for weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally suitable for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. So it is a moderately strong mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is more shaped towards the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. The bit should not be used with narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars if the lower jaw is narrow. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Cheek Piece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the weymouth bit, as the weymouth bit is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
