Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Weymouth Bridoon Double Jointed 16mm 13.5 bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Weymouth Bridoon Double Jointed 16mm 13.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for a Weymouth bit. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The bit has a size of 13.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for an average warmblood.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for an average warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
A double-jointed mouthpiece is a very common mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars in a narrow lower jaw. The double-jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single-jointed bits.
Cheekpiece
Weymouth Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a whole cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb and the bridoon is jointed.
