The Trust Equestrian bit range provides soft but effective aids for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Olive Head Single-Jointed bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Bradoon Olive Head Single-Jointed bit is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at its thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits as a result.
About the manufacturer
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Single-jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which applies less pressure to the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece mainly applies pressure to the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single- and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
