The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Snaffle Olive Head Single Jointed 12mm 15.0 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Snaffle Olive Head Single Jointed 12mm 15.0 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon snaffle for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single-jointed. The bit has a width of 15 centimeters. The 15cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bridoon snaffles for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.
Manufacturer Information

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Single Jointed
A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. A single-jointed mouthpiece is an absolute standard mouthpiece and very widely used.
Sidepiece
Bridoon Snaffle
The bridoon snaffle is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon snaffle is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit has a solid bar and the bridoon snaffle is jointed.
