Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Snaffle with Olive Head, Single Jointed 12mm 10 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Snaffle with Olive Head, Single Jointed 12mm 10 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 10 centimeters. The 10cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for ponies.

Bit Thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 12 millimeters at its widest point, making it a rather thin mouthpiece.

For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is typically suitable for a pony.

Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit Material

Sweet Iron

Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. These bits are designed to develop surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This rust tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer Information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With their Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Single jointed

A single-jointed bit has one hinge point, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily applies pressure to the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common, alongside the double-jointed mouthpiece.

Cheekpiece

Bridoon

The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available with both single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to one centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a straight bar and the bridoon is jointed.
