The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Weymouth Bradoon Olive Head Double Broken 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller side pieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is double-jointed. The bit has a width of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoon bits for Weymouths usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double broken
The double broken mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped to the mouth and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit applies pressure to the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. The bit should not be used on narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single broken bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Sidepiece
Weymouth Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double broken mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
