The Trust Sweet Iron Bridoon Olive Head Double Jointed 16mm 11.5 bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a width of 11.5 centimeters. The 11.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is typically between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold bloods, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses readily accept Sweet Iron bits as a result.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
Double jointed mouthpieces are suitable for many horses. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to sores. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
Cheekpiece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a curb and the bridoon is jointed.
