Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the greatest care and made from the best materials. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Olive Head Double Jointed 12mm 15.0 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Bridoon Olive Head Double Jointed 12mm 15.0 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed. The mouthpiece has a size of 15 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's commissures. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoons for Weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
Double jointed
The double-jointed mouthpiece is one of the most common mouthpieces on the market. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth, and lies somewhat looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, bars, and corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow lower jaws! The joints can press on the bars in a narrow lower jaw. The double-jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue than single-jointed bits.
Cheekpiece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bridle. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to a whole centimeter larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth is a curb bit and the bridoon is jointed.
