Product description
Trust Bit Sweet Iron Swivel Single Jointed Locked 16mm 11.5
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the greatest care and made from the best materials. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Swivel Single Jointed Locked 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail today:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Swivel Single Jointed Locked 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with so-called Universal Rings. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a width of 11.5 centimetres.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece size 11.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Cheek Piece
Universal/Swivel
The universal bit, also called Beval or Swivel, usually has rings as cheek pieces with internal eyes at the top and bottom. These allow for additional buckling of cheek pieces and reins, which makes the bit very flexible. With the Beval, the mouthpiece is attached in a central axis of the ring.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed to create surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
