The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize their design and function. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Full Cheek Snaffle Single Jointed Locked bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Full Cheek Snaffle Single Jointed Locked bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with full cheeks or bars as sidepieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed and strictly quality controlled by Trust's technical teams.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Sidepiece
Full Cheek Snaffle
The full cheek snaffle lies very quietly and stably in the mouth. It provides reliable lateral limitation without the risk of pinching the skin and lips due to the angled bars. This bit is suitable for horses that need clear lateral support and guidance when turning.
