The Trust Sweet Iron Pony Full Cheek Bit, double jointed is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with full cheeks or bars as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is double jointed.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a rather medium-strength mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
double jointed
A double jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two joints, is more shaped towards the mouth, and lies a little looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars, and the corners of the mouth. This bit should not be used on horses with narrow lower jaws. The joints can press on the bars with a narrow lower jaw. The double jointed bit exerts more pressure on the tongue compared to single jointed bits.
Side Piece
Full Cheek Bits
The full cheek bit lies very quietly and stably in the mouth. It ensures reliable lateral guidance without the risk of pinching skin and lips due to the angled shanks. This bit is suitable for horses that need clear lateral support and guidance when turning.
