The Trust Equestrian bit range provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron 3-ring single jointed pony bit from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron 3-ring single jointed pony bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with 3-ring cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shires Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
single jointed
The single-jointed mouthpiece has a hinge in the middle, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common of all mouthpieces, alongside the double-jointed one.
Cheek Piece
3-Ring
The three-ring bit combines effective lateral limitation, leverage, and lifting action in one bit. The degree of action is chosen by the various rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the engaging rein exerts the action of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
