The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Roller Bit from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Roller Bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shires horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.
Information about the manufacturer
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
single jointed
The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Roller Bit has a joint in the middle, which applies less pressure to the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single-jointed mouthpiece is certainly the most common mouthpiece alongside the double-jointed one.
Cheek piece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage length of the shanks, a varying degree and immediate angling of the bit in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty flexing at the poll, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require significant influence in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
