The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Roller Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is single jointed. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporty thoroughbreds.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's labial area. This makes it a moderately strong mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
single jointed
A single jointed bit has one hinge point, which exerts less pressure on the tongue than a double jointed mouthpiece. A single jointed mouthpiece primarily exerts pressure on the bars and sides of the tongue and can also affect the palate. The single jointed mouthpiece is the most popular mouthpiece on the market.
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and direct bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require significant action in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
