Product description
Trust Sweet Iron Pelham French Bar Bit 16mm 12.5
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's cheek area. This makes it a moderately thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draught horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Pelham French Bar Bit 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham French Bar Bit 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham shanks. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a size of 12.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece size 12.5cm is usually ideal for Thoroughbreds.
Shank
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When taking up the reins, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a different degree and immediacy of bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require significant intervention in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
