The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Flat Bar Bit is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16mm at its widest point, making it a rather medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shires Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly controlled for quality.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper action than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require significant influence in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
