The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a different degree of strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going through the poll, for "hot" horses or for horses that need clear intervention in critical situations.
