Product description
Trust Bit Sweet Iron Pelham single-jointed locked
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-strength mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
The range of bits from Trust Equestrian provides soft but effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Pelham single-jointed locked bit from the Trust Equestrian range in a little more detail today:
The bit Trust Sweet Iron Pelham single-jointed locked is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up.
Bit thickness
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a different degree of strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going through the poll, for "hot" horses or for horses that need clear intervention in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece is similar to a single-jointed mouthpiece, but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean on the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed in such a way that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
