Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Pelham bit, single jointed, locked, 16mm, 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham bit, single jointed, locked, 16mm, 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheek pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a size of 14.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The bit is 16mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are constantly being developed further by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The locked mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit changes back to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that lean against the hand. The locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheek piece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a more or less strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going through the poll, for "hot" horses, or for horses that need clear influence in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
