Product description
Trust Bit Sweet Iron Pelham Single Jointed Locked 16mm 11.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its thickest point. This makes it a moderately strong mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more like 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
The Trust Equestrian development team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Pelham single jointed locked 16mm 11.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Pelham single jointed locked 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 11.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for athletic thoroughbreds.
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When the reins are taken up, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angle in the mouth can be achieved. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require clear influence in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked mouthpiece resembles a single jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
