The Trust Equestrian Team continuously works on innovative products to further optimize the design and effectiveness of their bits. Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Bit, Double Jointed with High Port, 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range:
The Trust Sweet Iron Pelham Bit, Double Jointed with High Port, 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with Pelham cheekpieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 13.5 centimeters. The 13.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 16 millimeters at its widest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to check how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms upon contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer Information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovation and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly controlled for quality.
Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Pelham
The Pelham is a popular bit with short or long shanks. When taking up the reins, the bit acts on the mouth, lower jaw, and poll. Depending on the leverage length of the shanks, a varying degree of strong and immediate bit angle can be achieved in the mouth. Possible use for horses that have difficulty going on the bit, for "hot" horses, or for horses that require clear action in critical situations. The Pelham should only be used by experienced riders.
