The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt High Port Straight Bar is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with eggbutt rings as side pieces. The mouthpiece of this bit is a straight bar.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 18 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore a medium-thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits were developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
Manufacturer information
Trust Equestrian
The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality controlled.
Mouthpiece
Straight Bar Bits
A straight bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A straight bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Side piece
Eggbutt
The eggbutt bit is a very commonly used bit. The rings of the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt High Port Straight Bar cannot move independently, so the rider's aid is directly transmitted and the bit lies stably in the horse's mouth. In addition, this side piece does not pinch the corners of the horse's mouth, so rubber bit guards are not necessary.
