Today, we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Weymouth Snaffle Waterford Multi-Jointed Mouthpiece 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:

The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Weymouth Snaffle Waterford Multi-Jointed Mouthpiece 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a Weymouth snaffle for double bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is a Waterford or multi-jointed. The bit has a width of 12.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporty thoroughbreds.

Bit thickness

The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.

Comparison values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.

Weymouth snaffles for double bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.

When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.

Bit material

Sweet Iron

Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed to create surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Manufacturer information

Trust Equestrian

The Dutch bit manufacturer Trust Equestrian is characterized by its innovative spirit and craftsmanship. With the Inno Sense and Sweet Iron series, they are breaking new ground. The products are continuously developed by Trust's technical teams and strictly quality-controlled.

Mouthpiece

Multi-jointed/Waterford

A multi-jointed or Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that conforms to the horse's mouth and creates even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lean on the bit, allowing the rider to maintain proper control. In soft hands, this mouthpiece is soft and kind, but with a strong hand, the bit can be sharp.

Cheekpiece

Weymouth snaffle

The Weymouth snaffle is used in combination with a curb bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The Weymouth snaffle is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the curb bit, as the curb bit is a straight bar and the Weymouth snaffle is jointed.
