Product description
Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bridoon Medium Bar 16mm 14.5
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point. So it is a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-bloods and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits are usually between 12mm and 14mm thick.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical features of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and the palate.
The Trust Equestrian team continuously works on innovative bits to further optimize the design and function of the bits. Today we would like to present the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bridoon Medium Bar 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Bridoon Medium Bar 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller side pieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The mouthpiece has a width of 14.5 centimeters.
Bit Thickness
This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for very large warmbloods.

Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available with single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a solid bar and the bridoon is jointed. Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Trust's Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed to develop surface rust when they come into contact with air and moisture. This rust tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.
