Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and made from the most suitable materials. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon Medium Bar 16mm 12.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon Medium Bar 16mm 12.5 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bridles. The mouthpiece of this bit is a bar. The bit has a mouthpiece size of 12.5 centimeters. The 12.5cm mouthpiece size is usually ideal for thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 20mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the horse's lip area. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for Weymouth bridles usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the Weymouth, as the Weymouth is a bar and the bradoon is jointed.
