The bit range from Trust Equestrian provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. Today we would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon High Port 16mm 14.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon High Port 16mm 14.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a ported bar. The bit has a size of 14.5 centimeters. The mouthpiece size 14.5cm is usually ideal for very large warmbloods.
Bit thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point. It is therefore a rather thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is usually between 10mm and 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually require a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bradoons for weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When choosing the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Ported Bar Bits
A bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A ported bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a weymouth bit. It is available in single-jointed and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffle bits lies in the rings (e.g. olive head rings), these are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full cm larger than the weymouth bit, as the weymouth bit is a ported bar and the bradoon is jointed.
