The bit assortment from Trust Equestrian provides soft yet effective impulses for better communication between rider and horse. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Weymouth Bradoon High Port 16mm 13.5 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Eggbutt Weymouth Bradoon High Port 16mm 13.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a Weymouth bradoon for curb bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a ported bar. The bit has a width of 13.5 centimeters. The mouthpiece size of 13.5cm is usually ideal for smaller and normal warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20mm at its thickest point, making it a rather thick mouthpiece.
Reference values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, draft horses, and Shire Horses rather 18mm and larger.
Weymouth bradoons for curb bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed so that surface rust forms on contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Ported Bar Bits
A ported bar is usually straight or slightly curved to adapt to the anatomical conditions in the horse's mouth. A ported bar mouthpiece has a sharper effect than a single-jointed or double-jointed mouthpiece.
Cheek Piece
Weymouth Bradoon
The Weymouth bradoon is used in combination with a curb bit. It is available as single and double jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g. eggbutt rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The Weymouth bradoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the curb bit, as the curb bit is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
