The bit Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bridoon French Link Copper Plate 16mm 11.5 is made of Sweet Iron and equipped with smaller cheek pieces as a bridoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is a French Link, which means an eight-shaped plate as the center piece of a double-jointed mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has a width of 11.5 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well suited for sporty thoroughbreds.
Bit Thickness
The mouthpiece has a thickness of 20 millimeters at its thickest point. It is therefore rather a thick mouthpiece.
For comparison, the standard thickness for a normal warmblood is between 16mm and 18mm. For ponies, this value is more likely to be 10mm to 14mm. Very large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses and Shire Horses usually need a bit thicker than 18mm. A thickness of 12mm is usually suitable for a pony.
Bridoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting the bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can use your fingers to test how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits have been developed in such a way that surface rust forms when they come into contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore accept Sweet Iron bits well.

Mouthpiece
French Link
The French Link mouthpiece has two hinge points and an eight-shaped plate in the middle, which exerts even pressure on the tongue. This mouthpiece is double-jointed, is shaped more towards the mouth and sits a little looser in the horse's mouth.
Cheek Piece
Bridoon
The bridoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bridoon is usually chosen half to one cm larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a bar and the bridoon is jointed.
