Trust Equestrian bits are selected with the utmost care and crafted from the most suitable materials. We would like to introduce you to the Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon Single-Jointed Blocking 12mm 15 from the Trust Equestrian range in more detail today:
The Trust Bit Sweet Iron Olive Head Bradoon Single-Jointed Blocking 12mm 15 is made of Sweet Iron and features smaller cheekpieces as a bradoon for Weymouth bits. The mouthpiece of this bit is locked, meaning it blocks when the reins are taken up. The bit has a width of 15 centimeters. This mouthpiece size is generally well-suited for very large warmbloods.
Bit Thickness
The bit is 12mm thick, measured at the thickest point in the area of the horse's lips. This makes it a rather thin mouthpiece.
Comparative values: normal warmbloods 16 - 18mm, ponies rather 10 - 14mm, thoroughbreds 12 - 16mm, and particularly large warmbloods, cold-blooded horses, and Shire horses rather 18mm and larger.
Bradoons for Weymouth bits usually have a thickness of 12mm to 14mm.
When selecting bit thickness and size, pay attention to the anatomical conditions of the horse's mouth. You can test with your fingers how much space there is between the tongue and palate.
Bit Material
Sweet Iron
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel. The bits are designed so that surface rust forms when in contact with air and moisture. This tastes sweet and stimulates saliva production. Horses therefore readily accept Sweet Iron bits.

Mouthpiece
Locked
The Locked (blocking) mouthpiece resembles a single-jointed mouthpiece but cannot bend as much as a single-jointed bit. When pressure is applied to the reins, the bit locks and thus becomes a straight bar, making it a sharper bit. When less pressure is applied to the reins, the bit reverts to a single-jointed bit. This makes it an ideal bit for horses that push against the hand. The Locked mouthpiece is also called a Danger Bit.
Cheekpiece
Bradoon
The bradoon is used in combination with a Weymouth bit. It is available in single and double-jointed mouthpiece variations. The difference to other snaffles lies in the rings (e.g., olive head rings), which are significantly smaller than the rings of normal bits. The bradoon is usually chosen half to a full centimeter larger than the Weymouth bit, as the Weymouth bit is a solid bar and the bradoon is jointed.
